Professional Trim Installation That Actually Looks Right
Trim and molding are the details that make a home feel complete. Walk into a room with no baseboards, bare door casings, or gaps at the ceiling — it feels unfinished no matter how nice everything else is. Trim is a relatively small investment that makes a disproportionately large difference in how a room looks and feels.
The catch is that trim installation requires patience and precision. Corners that don't quite close, baseboards that bow away from the wall, casing that's out of plumb — these problems announce themselves loudly to anyone who knows what to look for. Good trim work, on the other hand, is invisible: it just looks like the house has always had it, exactly right.
I install all types of interior trim and molding in Carmichael homes. Whether you're finishing a new addition, updating outdated trim throughout your home, or adding architectural details like crown molding or wainscoting, I bring the precision that separates work you're proud of from work that nags at you every time you walk past it.
Trim & Molding Installation Services
Baseboard Installation
Baseboards define the base of every wall and give rooms a finished, polished look. I install straight, tight-fitting baseboards with clean miter corners, caulked seams, and nail-hole filling — ready for paint.
Door Casing & Window Casing
Casing frames every door and window opening. Properly installed casing sits flat, has tight mitered corners, and transitions cleanly between drywall and the door or window frame. I cut and install casing that looks like it came with the house.
Crown Molding Installation
Crown molding adds elegance and character to any room. It requires compound miter cuts and careful fitting at inside and outside corners. I handle everything from simple colonial profiles to detailed multi-piece crown assemblies.
Chair Rail Installation
Chair rail divides a wall horizontally, creates a design feature, and protects walls from furniture damage. I install chair rail level and straight, with clean corners and a finished appearance.
Wainscoting & Wall Panels
Wainscoting adds classic style to dining rooms, hallways, and bathrooms. I install traditional panel wainscoting and modern flat-panel designs that are plumb, level, and cleanly finished.
Picture Rail & Specialty Trim
Picture rail, coffered ceiling trim, built-in trim details, and other specialty profiles. If there's a trim profile you want installed, I can make it happen — cleanly and precisely.
Why Carmichael Homeowners Choose Me for Trim Work
Trim installation looks simple until you see the difference between rushed work and careful work. Here's what you get when you hire me.
Tight Miter Corners
The mark of quality trim work is corners with no gaps. I take the time to cut, fit, and adjust every miter until the joint closes cleanly. Gaps get filled with flexible caulk — not just painted over.
Proper Nailing
Trim nailed incorrectly warps, splits, or pops loose over time. I nail into studs and solid backing with the right fasteners, so your trim stays put for years.
Profile Matching
Whether you're adding trim to a newer room or matching existing woodwork in an older home, I source profiles that match what you have. Consistent trim throughout your home looks intentional.
Paint-Ready Finish
Every nail hole is filled, seams are caulked, and surfaces are smooth. My trim installations are ready for your painter — or I can paint the trim myself as part of the job.
Clean Work
Trim work creates sawdust. I contain the mess as much as possible and clean up thoroughly when finished. You won't find sawdust ground into your carpet or tracked through the house.
Local Carmichael Handyman
I live and work in this community. My reputation depends on doing good work for neighbors, and I stand behind every job. If something isn't right, I'll fix it.

Trim Types & What to Know
Different trim types serve different purposes. Here's a quick guide to help you think through what your home needs.
Baseboard
Most common trim. Runs along the base of every wall. Heights range from 2½" to 5½" or taller for a more dramatic look. Choose taller baseboards for higher ceilings.
Door & Window Casing
Frames door and window openings. Profile should match or complement your baseboards. Usually 2¼"–3½" wide. Colonial, craftsman, and flat/modern are the most common styles.
Crown Molding
Runs along the ceiling-wall junction. More complex to install — requires compound angle cuts. 3½"–5½" is typical for standard 8–9 ft ceilings. Taller rooms can handle larger profiles.
Chair Rail
Installed at 32"–36" from the floor, typically about one-third of the wall height. Can stand alone or be used with wainscoting below.
Wainscoting
Panel treatment on the lower portion of a wall. Traditional raised-panel style or modern flat-panel (board-and-batten or shaker). Height usually 36"–42".
Painting & Finishing Your New Trim
Trim looks its best when it's cleanly painted in a semi-gloss or satin finish that contrasts with the wall color. Most Carmichael homeowners go with bright white trim against a wall color — it's a classic combination that works in nearly any style home.
My trim installations are delivered paint-ready: nail holes filled, seams caulked, surfaces smooth. You can have your painter handle the trim, or I can paint it as part of the job. Either way, the prep work is already done right.
If you're staining trim to show the wood grain, material choice matters — I'll recommend appropriate wood species and discuss finishing options during the estimate.
How Trim Installation Works
Free Estimate & Consultation
I measure the space, discuss your trim style preferences, and provide an upfront quote for materials and labor. I'll recommend profiles that work with your home's existing style and your goals.
Material Selection
You choose the profile, or I recommend one that matches your home. I source trim from local suppliers. Most standard profiles are readily available; specialty profiles can be ordered.
Wall & Surface Prep
I check walls for square and plumb, remove any old trim cleanly, and make sure surfaces are ready. Good prep prevents problems once trim is installed.
Precision Installation
Trim is measured, cut with a miter saw, and nailed into place. Corners are fitted and adjusted until they close cleanly. I work room by room to keep your home livable during the project.
Finishing Touches
Nail holes filled, seams caulked, surfaces sanded smooth. Your trim is paint-ready. I clean up completely before I leave — no sawdust left behind.
